Welcome to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The Eastern District has 29 Article III Judges and 17 Magistrate Judges. The district comprises the counties of Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, and Suffolk and concurrently with the Southern District, the waters within the counties of Bronx and New York. The Eastern District has a population of eight million people.
NOTICE ABOUT PHISHING SCAM: There has been nationwide reporting of fake Notices of Electronic Filing (NEFs) being sent to attorneys and law firms across the country. These fake NEFs look like they are coming from the Court’s electronic filings system. These fake NEFs are phishing attempts to convince recipients to respond back to the emails. Once a recipient replies to the email, they are sent a follow-up email containing a link to access a document that leads the user to a malicious website.
Please take caution when opening emails. If you believe that you have received these fake NEFs, validate cases and case documentation through CM/ECF only, and do not download any attachments or click any links from unofficial or questionable sources.

Instructions for Filing Emergency Applications : The Clerk's Office in Brooklyn and Central Islip are open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for holidays. The last admittance will be at 4:45 p.m. on weekdays. AFTER BUSINESS HOUR FILINGS: There is a drop box located in the lobby of the Brooklyn and Central Islip Courthouses. Pleadings that are date-stamped and deposited in the drop box will be deemed filed on the date that they are stamped. See here for emergency application instructions. FAX FILINGS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
PUBLIC NOTICE: The Clerk’s Office the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York will no longer accept cash deposits effective October 31, 2024. Beginning October 31, 2024, all payments must be made by personal check, money order, cashier’s check, or credit card, with the exception of criminal bail, fines, and restitution which must be paid by personal check, money order, or cashier’s check.

NOTICE TO ALL PARTIES: Chief Judge Brodie has issued Administrative Order 2023-23 governing a pilot program for the direct assignment of cases magistrate judges.
